of the trip in 2009
Program
The
entire program announced has been adhered to :
- We have 14 meals in common, which gave a broad overview of the rich
local cuisine and its exotic flavors. The atmosphere within the group
was so good that the vast majority of other meals, that were not
included in the program, were also taken together.
- We have made two trips on a catamaran and took all of 10 times road
transportation around the island of Gods in all directions,
visited 9 sights, attended 3 live performances of dancing, traditional
Balinese songs, a concert Jazz, a cartoon in 3D, visited a painter's studio ...
- We have seen repeatedly, it was predictable but not
programmed, religious ceremonies in temples, on the beach, crossed
processions of believers festively dressed, carrying
offerings ...
- We were surrounded by bougainvillea, frangipani, lotus, Helicon,
bamboo, flaming banana, mango, coconut, rice ...
- We have seen up close and sometimes touched many monkeys, dolphins,
hundreds of herons, macaws, a multitude of different birds, fighting
cocks, bats, snakes, turtles, iguanas ...
In addition, this was not explicitly put into the program : elephants
and mosquitoes happily eaten by geckos, which are the most common
animals in Bali.
- We lived an unusual human experience : live, out of its bearings and
each
other, share, laugh, mess around, marvel, drink, see, hear, smell,
sweat together ...

Some

to the authors ! Others were made from images taken in large part by
our
cameraman, Christian, who has done very well the mission.
A movie is being assembled by Annabelle. Jean always works on our

Satisfaction
Survey
To
do better next time, we sent each participant a satisfaction survey.
Of course, we take into account all comments (Alain wrote in
French a part of his own here) and we are preparing a
survey to more precisely target the desires and needs of future
participants of the 2010
edition !
Aims
of the association Handivers Horizons
Some
of the goals of our association are :
* To support, encourage, develop and implement joint projects in
leisure,
cultural access, including travel abroad for its members.
* To share the experience of each other to inform, assist and open new
horizons.
We hope, in regard to our section "trips", that you help us to propose
to
organize others in France, in your area or elsewhere in the world, to
open to our members, our supporters ..., other doors with the spirit
that characterizes us, Handivers
Horizons spirit !

Great
traveler in
wheelchair for
more than 25 years, I know well and I like Indonesia to have gone there
six times. I think that our handicaps and our limits mustn’t
prevent us
from visiting somewhere else, that nothing is impossible !
I suggest, with Handivers Horizons, Traces and Bali Access Travel, to
put my experience and my very recent journey “in
scout” for your
service in order to make you discover Bali and its very rich and unique
culture, its temples and its magnificent landscapes, its delicious
cooking, the warm contact with its inhabitants and its harmonious,
sophisticated way of life influenced by the Balinese-like Hinduism
concerned by the preservation of cosmos balance...

It
is about an organized
tour but you
will have free time to relax too : no stress nor too much transfer or
transport ! We shall have nevertheless a quite busy and complete
program
which could, as far as possible, be modulated according to the interest
and the rhythm wished by each participant.
The small number of participants (15 persons) among which 3 Indonesian
and our autonomy in transport, will allow us to answer number of
individual expectations.
In
the most adapted frame,
but where we
leave aside the generally outlying , expensive and disinfected 5- star
hotels, the four establishments in which we shall live are all
comfortable and well located to be able to go alone to the beach or to
do shopping... All the rooms have their own bathroom and terrace, are
air-conditioned or ventilated.
Even if none is totally accessible in the sense we understand it here,
in Asia and in Bali, the architectural barriers raise fewer problems
since the human environment is also very different ! All the kinds of
handicaps are welcomed but we shall leave our electrical armchair in
France and only go with our manual armchair, accompanied if we are
totally dependant. The staff, often numerous, of the various hotels
will help us without problem.
Furthermore, for all the duration of the stay, Ketut will be there to
help us. Lilys also, who will bring a little of Indonesian feminine
freshness. Gobang and his vehicle will also be present during these 14
days.
We shall also have an adapted minibus with an hoist behind being able
to welcome two or three armchairs and three or four other persons : the
best in term of safety and comfort. It will avoid for some of us the
transfer from the wheeling chair to the seat in the taxi. We shall use
it to move to the different hotels and to move along the excursions and
the visits.

KUTA
One of the most
mythical beaches of
the world, its sunset of sun spreads an intense red light...
3
nights in all: 1 at the arrival and 2 before returning.
Central hotel in quiet street. In the heart of gangs (alleys), and
animation and in 10 minutes afoot far from the beach. Restaurant. Bar.
Chamber with 1 or 2 stairs, around a swimming pool. Air-conditioned,
TV, mini bar.

Organized
key points :
- A diner in Jimbaran : on the beach, we will be
served the
best grilled fishes and shellfishes of the island in a unique
atmosphere.
- The visit of one of the holiest sites in Bali : Uluwatu
temple
on the top of a cliff on the peninsula of Bukit. At 6 pm, in the
amphitheatre of the temple, we shall assist a Balinese dance show, the
Kecak, while looking up to the sunset. Magical !

you might by
yourself or with our assistance :
as in the 3 other places, make shopping,
benefit from traditional massages
on the beach
or in your room, take care of your body and your spirit in a Spa, drink delicious
fruit juices
aside the swimming pool, introduce you to the Indonesian, play chess or

Kuta/Padangbai
We shall stop to visit
Taman Gili,
vestige of the royal palace Klungkung and to admire
Bale
Kambang ( Floating Detached house) and Kerta Gosa (Law Court) which
count among the most interesting monuments of Bali. Lunch.

PADANGBAI
Tiny quiet and
authentic sea resort
on the east coast.
2 nights
Hotel in front of the beach in a park,
3 swimming pools. Restaurant. Rooms with1 or 2 stairs, air-conditioned,
TV. Mini bar.

Organized key
points
:
- We shall rent a small catamaran to go to the very close beach of
white sand Blue
Lagoon.
Possibility of snorkeling.
- We shall savor a Bebek Betutu :
whole duck (for 2 persons) stuffed by spices and stewed during 24 hours.
- If the small submarine in repair receives its batteries, we can go to
see the underwater without getting wet (optional)

Padangbai/Lovina
We shall cross amazing
landscapes
of terrace rice fields, shall visit the aquatic temple of Tirtagangga
and shall climb as height as 1 400 meters to admire the lake
and
the volcano Batur. .
Spot lunch.
We shall go down until Kedissan, at the edge of the
lake and
shall meet a handicapped artist: Made Tempo.

LOVINA
In the North of the
island, we will
put down our suitcases for 6 days on this beach with charming
population.
6 nights
Bungalows with 1 step in a big park. Swimming pool. 2 minutes far from
the beach. Big room with fan, warm water or air conditioned room with
cold water. Terrace.

points :
- - Picnic on the beach with grilled fish well
accompanied
and, as usual in Asia, with rice and coconut to drink... All this
prepared by Mini and her husband, on the beautiful sweet and repetitive
Balinese music of Nyoman and his group with traditional dances only for
us !
- A lunch ' in the city ' in front of the beach.
- On the heights of Lovina, we shall enjoy a sophisticated and creative
cooking halfway between the East and the West, divinely presented in
the gastronomic restaurant, the Damai
- Boat trip early in the morning to see dolphins.
- Diner of spiny lobster or fishes on the barbecue.
- We shall take the aperitif with a cocktail and
eat a
traditional dish of fish cooked in a leaf of banana tree : Pepes
Ikan Laut

Lovina/Ubud
We shall stop along
the Bratan
Lake
and its sacred temple: Pura Ulun Danu Batur dedicated to the goddess of
the lake.
Lunch with a panoramic sight on the lakes of Bunyan and
Tambligan
Discovery of the region of Bedugulwith the visit of
a Botanical
garden, the Kebun Raya
of which we shall go through 130 ha of forest with our vehicles.

UBUD
The cultural center of
the island
with art and crafts in a landscape of rice fields.
3 nights
Very central Hotel, leading to the Monkey Forest Road: shops,
restaurants, bars, craft market. Basic room around a garden. Fan. 3
stairs to reach the terrace.
You can : make
the stock of souvenirs,
presents, visit the numerous picture galleries...

Organized key
points :
- A lunch of Babi Guling: sucking pig stuffed by
spices and by
cooked hot pepper in the brooch. The skin is craquante, the tender
flesh, in a picturesque place.
- When it will well be warm, we shall go to greet the numerous macaques
which populate the sanctuary of the sacred forest of the
monkeys (
Monkey Forest)
- We shall spend the afternoon on the site of Tanah Lot
: beautiful sights on temples, park and accessible workshops of crafts.
We shall then go, for the sunset, to see herons
settling for the night in Petulu.
- We shall unlimitedly eat about twenty dishes composing a Balinese
traditional buffet.
- We shall spend a ' live music ' evening in the Jazz
Café
of Ubud (optional drinks).
- We shall attend one evening music and a traditional dance show, the Legong
Dance in Ubud Palace or in Water Palace.

Ubud/Kuta :
- Visit of an ornithological
park
where we can observe more than 250 sorts of free birds, in big cages or
in aviaries. Film, animations... Lunch in the middle of the singing
birds.
Besides, we shall inevitably see and hear believers processions going
to the temple for one of the numerous ceremonies which punctuate the
Balinese life, touch the stone of the uncountable statues and taste
exotic flavors. In brief, discover new sensations during these 2 weeks
rich in vibrations...
